Three Ideas for Deck Lighting

Are you ready to add lighting to your outdoor deck space? The right lighting will not only make your deck look great but will also help you enjoy it later in the day. Here are three interesting and functional ways to incorporate lighting into your deck.

Recessed

A popular choice for decks is to install recessed lighting. Recessed deck lighting stays out of the way so it is less likely to break down from exposure to the elements and it blends in nicely with any deck design. Some places to include recessed lighting can be in the posts or rails of your deck or built-in under-table lighting if your deck has a table portion attached.

Floor and Ceiling

If you want your lighting to be even more subtle, then you can use floor or overhead lighting. Floor level lighting such as lights set into the stairs of your deck are a great safety feature to prevent tripping. Although not all decks have a ceiling, if your deck is under another balcony of your house, then you can take advantage of that space and use it to hold classy pendant lights. Floor and ceiling lights can be strictly functional or you can get creative with different colors and designs.

Unattached

There are several options if you want to try out deck lighting without committing to a full installation process yet. It can be as simple as adding some string lights, such as the outdoor grade kind for Christmas decorations, or decorative lanterns. Or you can purchase small spotlights that you can install yourself. Another option is to look for solar-powered lights, which absorb sunlight during the day and come on automatically in the dark.
